Real time arbovirus detection and response

Sixth biennial Vector Borne Diseases (VBD) conference in Liverpool

12 December 2024

VB RADAR teams from APHA and UKHSA attended the biennial VBD conference in Liverpool.

This was the the biggest vector borne diseases conference in the UK to date.

Arran and Calam gave talks on the ongoing Usutu virus investigation and the utility of mosquitoes for virus surveillance.

The conference had a range of researchers and experts from across the VBD spectrum. There were some interesting and engaging talks during the two day event.

Each session contained poster sessions, presentations and talks. There were also opportunities to connect and network with other researchers.

The conference also hosted three keynote speakers:

  • Professor Polly Roy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

  • Dr Trisna Tungadi from Keele University

  • Professor Stephen Higgs from Kansas State University
